26 February: Round yard with Rebbeck, then dictated draft letter re fitting out facilities, their structural shop looked good. But the yard is so big, Rebbeck should have a deputy Gen[eral] Man[ager] he said ‘Name the man’, I said that was his job. Inspected Thruster in dock, damage from grounding aft not serious but rather mysteriously it has put shafts out of line, CO [Lt Cdr R E Baldwin-Wiseman] not impressive. To Unicorn [maintenance aircraft carrier completed 12 Mar], Capt [Q D] Graham, rather boring lunch party, Sir V M Hale & a US general, CO more fussed about galley, thinks ship all right but windage area big [flight deck 50ft above waterline]. Inspected minesweepers on slips. Went thro’ Bl. Prince & must get E in C [Turner] & DNO [Bevir] to see if they can come forward. Saw Unionmelt [welding] machine working. Had a farewell talk with FOIC.
